North End Redevelopment Plan fails to preserve Hoboken's scale & character The character of Hoboken -- its human scale and intimate neighborhood ambiance -- was shaped by Col. John Stevens when he established the original plan for the city in 1804. Unfortunately, the North End Plan fails on a number of fronts: open space will be mostly private, not public; it could pave the way for massive, monolithic structures; and the scale does not reflect the historic Hoboken streetscape. |
