The Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine (CABM) is jointly administered by the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and is designated by the New Jersey Commission on Science and Technology as one of the state's advanced technology centers. Funding is provided by the Commission, Rutgers, UMDNJ, and by other public and private sources. CABM was established in response to a recommendation in the report of the Governor's Commission on Science and Technology of December 1983 that New Jersey should create and maintain a world-class center in biotechnology. Launched in 1985, CABM now encompasses the Core Facility, which conducts basic research in the areas of structural biology, molecular genetics, and cell and developmental biology; and educational programs including lectures, seminars, symposia, short courses, fellowships, and visiting scientist programs.
