CRESP is being funded to provide the U. S. Department of Energy with a broader and deeper understanding of risk-related issues that concern waste cleanup. CRESP is to develop information and methods of analysis and prediction that will support the decision-makers involved in managing the decommissioning and cleanup of American nuclear weapons production facilities. The Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences Institute (EOHSI) in New Jersey shares the responsibility of management of the project with the Senior team at The School of Public Health and Community Medicine at the University of Washington, in Seattle. EOHSI is a program jointly sponsored by the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, (UMDNJ-RWJMS) and Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Due to the proximity of Seattle and Hanford, CRESP-UW is charged with information dissemination about Hanford. CRESP-EOHSI will perform that task for the Savannah River Site.
