Absecon Bay Coastal Cleanup on October 27th

On Friday, October 27th, volunteers are needed to cleanup a critical nesting area for northern diamondback terrapins! The entire area is littered with trash from recreational fishing activities and household debris. Much of this debris is single use plastic, including bottles, cans, bags, styrofoam containers, cigarette butts, monifilament, and even a few pairs of shoes. As we all know, plastic does not biodegrade, instead it breaks into smaller pieces and more easily enters the estuary, its inhabitants, and over time, our own bodies. Volunteers are needed to help blitz the area and pick up all trash and recyclable items.

The area is located off Route 30 (westbound) on Absecon Bay. To get there from the west, you take the second jug handle (after the Royal Lodge & before Delilah Rd.). The site is immediately after the bridge on your right. There is limited parking in the area, but enough to fit around 20 cars on site (more cars could park on the shoulder, but the highway is dangerous with speeding traffic). Please car pool, if possible, to help conserve resources.

Event goes from 9:00am to 1:00pm
