Each state's Arbor Day celebration date initiates the signing of an Arbor Day proclamation by local officials and Arbor Day activities related to trees and tree planting. Arbor Day originated in Nebraska City, Nebraska, and the first Arbor Day was held there on April 10, 1872; an estimated one million trees were planted that day!
