The Department of Parks includes the Division of Parks and the Division of Cultural and Historic Affairs. Current projects include cataloging existing recreation resources and facilities within the parks and identifying sites for potential parks. The department has been successful in obtaining grant monies from Green Acres Funds, Handicapped Persons Recreational Opportunities Act, State Forestry, Institute of Museum Services and Arts Block Grants. The principle function of the Department is the management and maintenance of the vast Bergen County Parks System, which encompasses 7,968 acres.
