standards - metadata and document submission
Metadata and Document Submission:Metadata standardsThe New Jersey Environmental Digital Library currently uses a sub-set of the Federal Geographic Data Committee's (FGDC) metadata standards to store bibliographic information about the documents contained in the collection. This metadata standard is used primarily to exchange digital geospatial metadata for geographic information systems (GIS) and other applications. We use this metadata standard in order to coordinate with ENDEX and the New Jersey Spatial Data Clearinghouse, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's clearinghouse for GIS information. We are also working to improve the library's ability to exchange data with other applications, including other databases, other libraries, and other similar projects. If you are interested in more information, or exchanging data, please contact us for more information. Document Submission The NJEDL strongly encourages user-submissions of environmental information to our digital library. Based on the FGDC standard, we have created a user submission form which requests appropriate information based on document type, and allows for user-generated metadata. However, the NJEDL may modify user submissions to make the metadata more appropriate for inclusion in the digital library. We may also approve or reject submissions to the database based on appropriateness of content, copyright allowances, and ownership and technical issues. |
