Abstract
This study reports shore residents' and shore tourists' opinions about wind turbine placement on the New Jersey coastline. It finds that a majority of people are in favor of the project by a margin of better than 2 to 1. Determining variables in the outcome of this study are the distance of wind turbines from the shore, people's familiarity with the wind turbine concept, esthestics, and location. Distance from the shoreline is the most important variable for those in favor of the project. Familiarity with the wind turbine concept also correlates with a greater acceptance of the project. Finally, 72% of visitors would continue to visit if the wind turbines were located off shore.
